Tip from the trainer: When you make your dog an I.D. tag, I suggest his or her name is "REWARD". Phone numbers and "call collect" should be the only other information on the tag.

Karen suggests the following:

MANAGEMENT- While you are training, toys like 1., 6., and 7. below may be stuffed with kibble or treats and will keep dogs busy. Depending on the type of stuffing, freezing may help the experience last longer. When they are busy, they are not getting into trouble! Many people feed all of their dog's meals (kibble) by using the toys that have the Premier Treat meter. On this list, those are numbers 6 The Waggle, and number 7 The Squirrel Dude. There are other toys with that feature including The Giggle.

1. Kong Toy - size proportioned to pet. The black version is stronger than the red "Tuffy" if your dogs really chews hard. These may be stuffed with soft cheese, peanut butter, etc. (or use a recipe from the Kong brochure), then freeze that goodie & give it to Fido when company arrives.

2. Shed N Blade - 12" or 14" After years of trying most every comb, brush, rake, etc. this is the best shedding product we've found.

3. Fooey the most bitter stuff on earth- Terrible taste helps stop chewing.

4. Leather or Cotton Webbed Leashes are very comfortable in your hands. Most leashes are Nylon and feel like they cut into your hands. 6' is a good length for training. Please don't bring a Flexi Leash into a training class unless asked to do so. Flexi Leashes are good for many things but they can wrap around a leg & give a nasty rope burn unless used responsibly around other people.

5. Premier humane choke collars- if used for everyday, please put tags on one of the "dead" rings, not the ring the leash attaches to.

6. Waggle Toy- has Treat Meter making it harder to get kibble or treats out.

7. Squirrel Dude Toy-also has Treat Meter making it harder to get kibble or treats out.
