Dear Karen,
Last summer my company allowed me to work for the United Way. Last September
and October, Southeastern had me visiting and presenting 12 post offices
in the area with early morning meetings. I took "Glory" at that time.
Since then, "Glory" has been returned to SEGDI for her final phase of
training. "Joy", MY career change guide dog (she still thinks she is
a guide dog) has been traveling with me selling and convincing people
to give to CFC (Federal Government Workers United Way) campaign. "Joy"
is in a DOWN STAY position in front of 100+ postal workers while the
speeches are going on. After the presentations, "Joy", in SEGDI harness
off lead, goes with me to greet every Postal Worker in the building.
I'm so proud of her! The only training she has received has been
from YOUR earlier classes. She did get some work at SEGDI when I turned
her in last year. "Joy" was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipides, a rare
disease. Joy completely stressed out at the school, so I don't think
she received a lot of training down there. Last year, I had to put her
on the shelf while I finished "Glory". Anyway she has been a real performer
at these local meetings, and I THANK YOU. Karen, I don't want
to take another puppy to raise for awhile; I want you to help me take
"JOY" to the next level, whatever that means. I think she is a SOFT
dog; however, and cannot handle much stress, but then again she may
surprise us. WE have really bonded, I was extremely upset when she went
down there for her training. I know you won't believe this, but I told
her to SHUT DOWN, if she didn't like it, and I would come and pick her
up and take her home. She did, and I did. Thank you for your efforts
with "Joy". Look at the people she is effecting now at the CFC meetings.
I'll see you in 4 weeks.
Your friend,
Jerry
